Chelsea Soccer: Thoms Ready for a Big year for the Bulldogs

David Thoms has been waiting for this season for a long time and thinks that this season in Chelsea Soccer could be a big year for the team. “I’m super excited for this season to start,” Thoms said. “Everyone is really coming together as a team, and I think we are going to prove a lot of people wrong and turn a lot of people’s heads,” Thoms remarked.

Thoms is most excited for this season because of the way last season ended when the Bulldogs lost to Adrian 2-1 in districts. “Last year’s season was a mixture of emotions for all of us. We were a very young team playing in a very skilled conference in the SEC,” Thoms commented.  “The season didn’t go the way we wanted it to, and there were a lot of games that really disappointed us. It’s really fueled the fire in me to make this year a success in my senior season,” Thoms stated.

Thoms is one of many returners coming back for the Bulldogs which also includes Jacob Smedshammer, Parker Shaw and goalkeeper Connor McKenzie. These are just a few of the returners this year for the Bulldogs. “All of us are ready for the challenges this season, and all of us want it really bad.  We will do whatever it takes to get there,” Thoms remarked.

Chelsea is in the SEC which is one of the toughest conferences in high school soccer, and Thoms loves competing against SEC Teams. “It’s a lot of fun!” Thoms said excitedly.  “There’s no game you can take lightly. You have to be at your best every game and if you’re not, you’ll pay for it. If you slip up once in the SEC that could be it,” Thoms stated.

With playing in the SEC Conference, Thoms says that all of the teams in the SEC are going to be ones to watch this season. “You can’t take any game lightly in the SEC because every team in this conference can come and beat you. Dexter’s definitely a team to watch out for this season as well as Adrian,” Thoms commented.  “They knocked us out of districts last year and the boys haven’t forgotten about that feeling. Jackson is new to the conference this year, and I’m excited to see what they bring to the table,” Thoms continued.

Chelsea Soccer is led by Jordan Miller and Thoms has really enjoyed working with him.   He is not sure how it would be without him. “He is a great guy and a even better coach,” Thoms proclaimed.  “I worked with him a lot during the offseason, and it has really helped the team as a whole. He has gotten us prepared physically and mentally for the season,” Thoms stated.

Thoms has been a part of the sport of soccer all of his life and really would not know what to do without the game. “I started playing soccer when I was very young, and I fell in love with the game and never looked back. My cousin is the starting keeper for Western Michigan and Kalamazoo FC, so he’s inspired me to continue playing Soccer after High School,” Thoms said.

Thoms says that Chelsea Soccer is hoping for a big year and says that the team is more determined than ever to have a successful season. “We developed a family in the team, and we’re all ready to play as one. Our minds are right, and we’re physically ready for the season,” Thoms commented.
