Linden Football Player Profile: Colby Kohmescher

Colby Kohmescher is ready for another season of Linden Football as the Linden Eagles prepare to take the field this weekend against Pontiac Notre Dame Prep.  Kohmescher can’t wait to start the season. “I am very excited. Last season I ended up breaking my hand and had to have surgery week 7. So I am super pumped to get back out there and lead the team,” Kohmescher said.

Kohmescher will be the quarterback this year for the Eagles and is just excited to go under center and help his team win the game.  Kohmescher says that the team looks very well both on offense and defense. “This year being my senior season, I can’t wait to go out there and leave everything on the field for my team. We have a ton of potential, and we haven’t even broken the surface. Our receivers are easily some of the best in the metro league, and I am super pumped to be able to throw to such great receivers. Defensively we look terrific. Our Secondary has grown tremendously from last year, which will be very helpful for this season,” Kohmescher added.

Kohmescher also enjoys being put in difficult situations as a QB and enjoys the challenge of keeping his cool when things don’t go well. “As a quarterback, we are put in high-pressure situations. To be a successful quarterback, you must be able to keep your composure and be able to keep the rest of the offense cool as well. For me, I love being in those high-stress situations, and I think I do a good job with handling those situations in the game,” Kohmescher commented.

For Kohmescher, the sport of football means a lot to him. It’s the sport he has played since he was seven years old and has loved it ever since. “Well, I started off playing flag football before I could start tackle. Once I turned 7, I started playing youth tackle football at Lake Fenton. I played youth up until middle school. Then from there on, I played Linden Football in middle and high school,” Kohmescher mentioned.

To prepare for a game, right after school gets out, Kohmescher relaxes and doesn’t worry about anything but the game ahead. “On game days, early on in the day, I like to relax and think about anything but the game. I listen to music pretty much the whole day up until warmups. I don’t talk to people outside of my family and the football team unless I have to because I want to be fully focused on the game,” Kohmescher said.

Kohmescher also plays baseball for Linden and enjoys the hectic schedules for both sports. “I love football and baseball, so I enjoy playing two sports. I train for both them year-round. So they pretty much never stop,” Kohmescher stated.

Football has taught Kohmescher a lot during his time playing the game he loves, and they are lessons that he will have for the rest of his life. “Football has taught me that working together is crucial for a team to have success. If there are 11 players on the field that play for each other and have each other’s backs, we can be successful.   This year, I think this team has that, and I think we will have great success this season,” Kohmescher said.

Kohmescher admits he will miss playing high school football next season but says he wants to enjoy every moment of this season knowing that it is his last. “I am sure I am going to miss everything about it. I think I will miss playing with the group this year the most. We are all very close, and playing with them for the last time will be tough. I am also going to miss playing for my coaches,” Kohmescher added.
