Hartland Boys Lacrosse Player Preview: Trevor Lockwood

This week Great Lakes Post spoke with Hartland Lacrosse player Trevor Lockwood about his senior season at Hartland High School.

How do you think your season is going?

TL:  So far this season we have been playing very good. Putting up a lot of goals on offense and holding our own defensively. We’re a young team but very skilled.

What’s it like being an LSM?

TL:  Playing LSM, in my opinion, is the best position. You play a lot of defense, get to run around, and even play a little bit of offense.

How did you fall in love with lacrosse?

TL:  I fell in love with lacrosse because I love to run around and hit people. Another reason I fell in love was just the competitive aspect of the game.

Can you believe that you are a senior this year?

TL:  I can believe I’m a senior because it’s been a long four years in high school. But it’s going to be weird not being in high school and the thought of going to college is pretty crazy.

What would it mean to win a state title this year?

TL:  Winning a state title would mean the world to me. In my high school career, we have lost twice in the semifinals by one goal. Both losses were to DCC, which were all heartbreaking losses.

How do you mentally prepare for a game?

TL:  Before each game, I put some headphones in and listen to Rocky music. I also think about how I have to prove to everyone and myself that I’m not overrated.

What has lacrosse taught you?

TL:  Lacrosse has taught me you have to work hard or you are not going to be good at your craft. Lacrosse has also taught me you accountability and how some times you mess up and have to own up to your mistakes.

Why was Lindenwood the place you wanted to go?

TL:  Lindenwood was the place for me because they have a beautiful campus, impressive facilities for their athletic and academic programs.  Most importantly, they had the major I was looking for which is paramedicine.

What will you miss about high school lacrosse?

TL:  What I will miss most about high school lacrosse will be hanging with the boys every day at practice, the bus rides to the games, and playing with my brother. It will be different next year because I have played with one of my brothers every year in high school.
