Bloomfield Hills Player Profile: Alec Ward

The Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks are ready for a big season this year after last year they went 2-7 on the season. One of the players to watch this year is Wide Reciever, Alec Ward, who is ready for this season to start. “I’m very excited,” Ward said.  “We have a lot to prove this season, and I’m excited to show people what we’re all about. We have had some pretty good teams in recent years, and last year, we didn’t live up to our expectations. We all know that this year is all about redemption and showing people that we are still a force in this league,” Ward continued.

Ward is a Wide Reciever for the Blackhawks and loves the feeling of making a big play and getting into the endzone. “I like making big plays and giving the team the momentum that you need to win. Being a receiver means you can create a game-changer, and that’s what I strive for every game,” Ward commented.

Ward will be catching balls from a very familiar face as Tanner Slazinski returns at quarterback for the Blackhawks and Ward is excited to have him back under center for Bloomfield Hills. “It is amazing to work with Tanner. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the state. We have great chemistry and communication. We both know what It takes to win, and we will both do whatever we can to help us win,” Ward mentioned.

Playing for Bloomfield Hills Football is special to Ward.  To play for such a special program is an honor. “It means everything to me; the whole community supports us, and it’s like a family. They brought me in and made me the player I am today. I am forever grateful for the Bloomfield Hills Football Program,” Ward added.

Ward also announced earlier this year that he would be playing his college football at Central Michigan University next fall and said he is very excited about his decision. “It felt amazing to commit to Central Michigan,” Ward said. “Playing Division 1 Football has always been a dream of mine. They have a historic program, and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to play there,” Ward stated.

To prepare for a football game, Ward always goes through his gameday routine before getting ready and says his routine never changes. “I’m a very superstitious person, so I always go through my game-day routine. I usually listen to music and relax to prepare myself mentally, and I usually watch some film and imagine making big plays,” Ward stated.

Football has taught Ward about the game as well as skills he can use for the rest of his life. “It taught me some of the most important life lessons accountability, respect, loyalty, dedication, perseverance, and how 55 kids can become one family with one goal,” Ward said. “Every year, we all figure out the goals that we have, and we figure out the one that’s most common for all of us. We hang it all over our facilities, and it reminds us every day of what we’re working towards, and we have to do as a team to achieve that goal,” Ward commented.

Ward will miss a lot about high school football but says the most significant thing he will miss is playing under the Friday Night Lights with his closest friends.  “I’ll miss playing football with some of my closest friends, and the atmosphere that comes with playing on Friday nights. It’s something you can never forget,” Ward said.
