Michigan vs Maryland Basketball Preview

Michigan Men’s Basketball will host the Maryland Terrapins Saturday high noon at the Crisler. One team is down and one is up and at this time it’s Michigan that is down and they say Fear The Turtle. Well, in this case, it’s the Terps led by super sophomore forward Burno Fernando and junior Anthony Cowan. Cowan is the point leader with 16 points per game and 4.5 assists lead the team in steals. Burno Fernando leads the team in rebounds and blocks and is a person that is not easy to move in the paint.

The Wolverines will counter Fernando with junior center  Jon Teske who can keep Fernando off the rebounds and force the jump shot which is his current weakness and Teske will need to stay out of foul issues to have success.  Also look for help from Charles Matthews (13.2 average, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assist average) and Ignas Brazdeikis to help out on Fernando and tight defense will be shown on both teams.

With Maryland’s victory over Purdue, the Terrapins are looking for their 20th win of the season and 4th in the Big Ten. However, factors to consider Maryland has not defeated a top-ranked team on the road in 11 years and Michigan has not lost two games in a row this year. The three-point shot for both teams will be a key as Maryland leads the conference in making the 3 where Michigan shoots well in Ann Arbor but is 30% for the year.

Also in Michigan’s favor is the turnovers and the Terps are averaging a record 10.3 turnover ratio that plays right into the scoring machine of Michigan. For Michigan to win this game the scoring machine and the 3 point field goals need to be made as rebounding favors Maryland over the Wolverines. Look for a defensive matchup and a low scoring game as the Wolverines look to keep the first place hold in the conference. The game will be at 12;00 noon and will be on the Fox network and Michigan is 22-3 for the year 11-3 in the conference.
