Michigan Softball: Michigan defeats Nebraska in a doubleheader



The Michigan Softball team had a huge series against Nebraska to start Big Ten Play and won both games in a doubleheader today against the Cornhuskers. Taking Game 1 8-0 and Game 2 7-2. Michigan now goes to 2-0 in Big Ten Play and are 18-10 overall this season.


The Coaching Staff of Carol Hutchens, Bonnie Tholl and Jennifer Brundage got their 1,000th win in the first game of this doubleheader and the coaching staff is now 1,001-251-2 as staff at Michigan.


Meghan Beaubien started Game 1 for the Wolverines and had 10 strikeouts on the day. It was Beaubien’s second straight game with 10 plus strikeouts on the day.


Michigan had great performances from Alex Sobczak who hit a 3 run home run in game 1. Also, Madison Uden who drove in two runs in game 1 for the Wolverines. The Wolverines cruised to an 8-0 win in Game 1.


In Game 2 it was Mackenzie Nemitz who stole the show as she drove in 3 runs on 1 hit during the game. Nebraska broke a 31 inning scoreless drought as Samantha Owen hit a 2 run home run to centerfield to break a 31 inning scoreless drought for the Huskers.


That wasn’t enough as Michigan took the second game 7-2. The Huskers have now lost 9 straight games and are 0-2 in Big Ten Play. Nebraska falls to 10-15 overall on the season.


Michigan will look for the series sweep against the Huskers tomorrow at 1 PM.
