Michigan vs Nebraska Preview

Michigan Men’s basketball team will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers tonight in the final regular season game at the Crisler Center. This game will be a tune-up and a focused game for the Wolverines. Michigan is coming off the first place matchup loss to MSU Sunday and only three chances to get back on track.

Nebraska’s season has not been what was predicted with injuries and poor play have hampered the season and they are coming off a defeat to Purdue. For the Huskers seniors, James Palmer and Glynn Watson are leading the charge for Nebraska. Watson kept the Huskers in the Purdue game with a season-high 25 points and Palmer has been steady all year and has given the Wolverines fits in last year’s game in Lincoln.

Michigan had issues with MSU in the switching of the players on screens each time and this was a focus last year when Nebraska first surprised the Wolverines with this defense. Michigan will need to pick up the shooting including the three-point success. Jordan Poole struggled against MSU and will need to have better success. Charles Matthews ankle will be an issue and with the bench being very short in replacements the starting five will need to stay out of trouble in the area of fouls.

Expect Zavier Simpson to turn up the defense and Michigan is leading the Big Ten in defense and will cause the Huskers problems as Nebraska has trouble scoring. Michigan is averaging a 12 point difference between teams even with the limited points by the Wolverines. Another motivation for tonight is Senior night and the only senior is Charles Matthews and the crowd will be looking to support his effort and the team’s effort in the Maze Rage zone. Finally other than last year’s win by Nebraska the Wolverines have had success winning 11 of 12 games against the Huskers.

After tonight’s games, Michigan is on the road with tough games with Maryland and the final game in East Lansing against rival MSU. Tonight’s game will be at 7 pm and shown on ESPN.
