One of the first big tournaments of the season is underway this weekend as the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego as many big-name golfers are hitting the course for the first time this season.
After Round 1, it is Sebastian Cappelen out of Denmark who is tied for the Lead with Keegan Bradley after round one. Cappelen who is a rookie on the PGA Tour this year shot a 6 under 66 to start off his first Farmers Insurance Open. The Rookie finished tied for 6th at last week’s American Express open and played on the South Course which played three holes tougher than the North course which is considered as the easier course. Cappelen is a four-time all American at the University of Arkansas where he won the 2013 SEC Championship. It is also the second time he has led after the first round since the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship which was his first event on tour.
Keegan Bradley also had a good day yesterday as he also shot a -6 under 66 yesterday as he shot his lowest round in the 33 career rounds he has played at the Farmers Insurance Open. Bradley has done well of late as he has posted four top 25 in seven starts this season.
Many players made their 2020 Tour Debut this weekend. One of those players was Rory Mcilroy who shot a five-under 67 on his day. Its a big weekend for Rory, if he can win this weekend he will be the number one ranked golfer in the world. Mcilroy won this event back in 2011. He remains one shot off the lead
Tiger Woods also made is 2020 Tour debut this weekend and did pretty well for his round. He opened with a -3 under 69 on the north course. Tiger is looking for his 83rd career win which will tie Sam Snead for the most wins on the PGA Tour. His last two opening rounds in the 60’s have led to wins at the 2019 Tour Championship and the 2019 ZOZO Championship. Tiger has won this event seven times in his career. He currently sits 3 shots off the lead.
Phil Mickelson shot an even 72 on the day and is 6 shots off the lead. Jordan Speith shot a -2 under 70 on the day. Defending champion Justin Rose is currently +3 over and Rickie Fowler is +5 over.
