NASCAR Cup Series Driver Previews: Clint Bowyer

It was an up and down season for Clint Bowyer in 2019, after the 2018 season, where Bowyer finished with two wins. He did not find victory lane last year. Bowyer will drive the Number 14 Rush Truck Centers/Mobil 1 Ford for Stewart Haas Racing next year.

It was an overall struggle not just for Bowyer but the entire Stewart Haas Racing team in 2019 after a dominant year in 2018. In 2018, all four drivers visited victory lane for Stewart Haas Racing with Kevin Harvick having eight wins, Clint Bowyer having two wins, and Aric Almirola and Kurt Busch each having one victory. In 2019 however, Stewart Haas Racing struggled to go winless for the first 19 races of the season. Kevin Harvick was the only Stewart Haas driver to go to Victory Lane in 2019 with four wins. Bowyer, along with Aric Almirola and Daniel Suarez, did not win a race in 2019.

Bowyer’s 2019 stats were zero wins, seven top 5’s, and 18 top 10’s, one pole, and made it to the round of 12. He had 7 DNF’s on the season, including a summer stretch that Bowyer would probably like to forget.

So what’s next for Bowyer in 2020? Well, he will have a new crew chief this year as Johnny Klausmeier, who worked with Aric Almirola and the 10 team, will be Bowyer’s new crew chief. It is part of a crew chief shakeup at Stewart Haas. Mike Bugarewicz, who was Bowyer’s Crew Chief last year, will work with Aric Almirola this year.

If Clint Bowyer can avoid the mistakes and have good consistent finishes, it will be a good 2020 for the 14 Team.

The NASCAR Cup Series starts its season at the Daytona 500 on February 16th. The coverage begins at 2:30 on FOX.
