SOFTBALL: Michigan Pounds Michigan State 12-1 in East Lansing

 

After coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Buckeyes, the Michigan Wolverines got a huge win against the Michigan State Spartans 12-1.

 

The Spartans actually got the game started when Mackenzie Meech hit a single to centerfield to get the Spartans on the board early 1-0. The Spartans got to Michigan Pitcher Meghan Beaubien early loading up the bases on her with no outs. Head Coach Carol Hutchins switched pitchers and put in Alex Storako. Storako was challenged to get 3 outs with the bases loaded. She did just that and gave up no runs to get out of the first inning.

 

Michigan started off the second inning in a big way as Katie Alexander hit a two-run home run to put the Wolverines up 2-1 in the top of the 2nd. Faith Canfield then doubled to right field which gave Michigan a 3-1 lead. Michigan then made it a 4-1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning when Alex Sobczak Singled to right field which scored Lexie Blair.

 

The Fourth Inning got started in a big way as Faith Canfield hit a triple down the right field which made it a 5-1 game. Lexie Blair then hit a single through the left side to make it a 6-1 game. 2 more runs would score in the inning to make it an 8-1 game.

 

In the Top of the 7th inning, Michigan’s Katie Alexander hits another home run to make it 9-1 Wolverines. It followed with a 2 run home run from Morgan Overaitis to make it an 11-1 game. Michigan would end up winning the game 12-1 and have won 18 out of the last 19 games.

 

Alex Storako picked up the win after coming into a game in relief of Meghan Beaubien. Storako Struck out 15 batters which is a career high. Her record improves to 11-6 on the season. Alli Walker picked up the loss for the Spartans her record falls to 8-10 on the year.

 

Michigan travels to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini in a weekend series. The Spartans stay home this weekend and host Ohio State.
