Michigan Hockey Player of The Week: Jack Lafontaine

Jack Lafontaine is currently getting more playing time this year and has really established himself as one of the top goalies at Michigan. For the first time in 3 years, there is a new goalie at Michigan and Lafontaine along with fellow goaltender Hayden Lavigne are confident to fill it.  “I am just excited for this opportunity to start some games and get some more playing time,” Lafontaine said. “Hayden and I definitely have some big shoes to fill this year” Lafontaine continued.

This weekend, Michigan takes on Ferris State for a non conference showdown before heading into conference play next week and Lafontaine is confident that he can make an impact for the games this weekend. “We know they are a very good team. They work very hard and get pucks to the net. We just have to play our style and if we do, I think that Ferris State will have to learn to play our style and not us having to adjust to them”.

Lafontaine also likes all the parity between Michigan’s youth and veterans. With a new coaching staff, a lot can happen for this team and it will happen when you least expect it. “I see it all the time in practice,” said Lafontaine. “It’s an exciting time to be a Michigan Wolverine. This a start of a new era because I think we are more competitive and more consistent.  It’s going to be fun this year for us and for the fans because I think we can go out and really do something this year,” Lafontaine said. When Jack Lafontaine decided to come to Michigan, he said it was one of the best decisions he ever made. “Making that decision, by far, was the best day of my life,” Lafontaine stated. I can honestly sit here and say I’ve made the right decision to come to Michigan, and I am living one of the best lives a hockey player can have.”

Lafontaine is also impressed with the new coaching staff and said that they can go far and maybe surprise some people this year. “I love the people that Coach Pearson has brought in to lead this team. He has been able to turn a program like Michigan Tech into a very good team and as much as we respect our coaches, we can trust them as well. That’s very important for any team to do,” Lafontaine said.

Michigan welcomes Ferris State November 2nd and 3rd. Both games start at 7:30 pm.
