Michigan Baseball Player Profile: Jimmy Kerr by Casey Campbell

Jimmy Kerr is in his senior season with the Michigan Baseball Program and says that the season is going well for the team as they head into a MAC Conference showdown with Toledo and a huge weekend series with Minnesota. “Our season is going well, but we have definitely left some winnable games on the table on the road. We have room for growth in a lot of areas, but we are happy that we have the opportunity to continue to get better as a team as the season goes on. We want to be playing our best baseball throughout this Big Ten season and into the postseason.” Kerr said

Kerr had a huge game on Saturday against Michigan State going 5 for 5  on the day and said the team had a great performance against Michigan State. “It is always a privilege to be able to participate in rivalry games. The entire team did a great job coming out ready to play, keeping its foot on the gas all game long. Hitters were on base all day long, pitchers were pounding the zone, and everyone played solid defense all game long. It’s awesome to see the whole team put together a clean game against State.” Kerr continued

Jimmy Kerr has been around the sport of Baseball all of his life and his dad and Grandfather both played for the Michigan Baseball Team. Kerr knew he wanted to play baseball ever since he was young.  “My family has a history of playing the sport, so I remember being signed up and playing my first game with my older sister to play T-ball when I was four years old. I loved Little League baseball and made some of my best friends while playing. The relationships I developed are one thing that really made me fall in love with the game form a young age.” Kerr said

Michigan Baseball has meant a lot to Kerr these last four years and says the experiences gained while playing in Ann Arbor. Playing at Michigan the last four years has been by far the best experience of my life. I am forever grateful to Coach Bakich and Coach Schnabel for giving me the opportunity to play for the university that I grew up loving. My parents and grandparents have been able to support me at almost all of our home games and many away games, so Michigan Baseball has really been something that has brought my family together over the past four years. Being a part of Michigan Baseball is being a part of something bigger than myself, and I’m hoping to leave the jersey in a better place than I found it.” Kerr said

The Michigan Baseball team has a lot to accomplish this season and starts with Wednesday’s game against Toledo and Kerr has some unfinished business before the season ends. “Our goals are to become champions at the end of the year. We have five opportunities to do that through the Big Ten regular season and tournament, a Regional, a Super Regional, and the College World Series. We want to come out on top of all of those and become the best team we can be by the end of the season. Teams who win together, stay together, so we want to be able to call Team 153 a championship team.” Kerr said
