Men’s Gymnastics: Maize Defeats Blue in Intrasquad Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan men’s gymnastics team held its annual Maize and Blue Intrasquad meet, with Maize topping Blue by a 399.350-388.350 score Saturday (Dec.9) inside Cliff Keen Arena.

In a meet where five scores counted with as many as eight gymnasts on each event per team, the Blue squad took an early lead after the first rotation, but the Maize team dominated the rest of the afternoon.  Maize pulled ahead after a 68.75 on high bar in the fifth rotation to take an insurmountable lead of 7.35.

A pair of freshmen earned event titles for Maize on the afternoon, as Jacob Moore took the floor title with a 14.30 and classmate Cameron Bock took the still rings crown with a 14.15.

Junior Uche Eke took the event title on pommel horse with a 14.10 on the apparatus, while classmate Anthony McCallum took event wins on vault with a 14.90 and parallel bars with a 13.60. Senior Dmitri Belanovski took the event title in the high bar with a 14.05, an event that he earned an All-America citation in 2016.

McCallum also won the all-around with an 80.850. Two freshmen also competed in the all-around with Bock finishing second with 80.550.

A group of nine freshmen donned the Maize and Blue for the first time today including Bock, Moore, Alan GerdovJonathan LiuJustin MurphyShaunak PuriJames ReadNick Guy and Anthony Tawfik.
