Minnesota gets the extra point in Shootout Ties Michigan 6-6

Once again in the series, Michigan had to battle back from adversity and they did just that.  But came up short after tying Minnesota 6-6 only to suffer defeat when Minnesota scored the extra point in a shootout.

Minnesota came out strong and put up their goals quick in the first period to make it 4-0 and was up 6-3 with under ten minutes to go when Michigan scored three to make it 6-6. Despite being up 6-3 and giving up three to make it 6-6. Head coach Don Lucia was still impressed with his team’s performance . “I thought in third period we did well.  We did not give up a lot of shots in the third and Eric Schierhorn played so well even though he had a rough weekend” He went on to say: “I thought our team played hard and played very smart in this game and also very smart in this game so overall good game.”. One person Lucia was impressed with was goalie Eric Schierhorn and even though he had a rough weekend, Lucia was still impressed with his performance. “Eric has played so well this year and he had a hard time finding some pucks this weekend.” Lucia Said. Lucia also gave credit to Michigan’s red hot first line.  “You have 2 seniors on the line and seniors seem to have really good years or struggle at times.” “From an offensive standpoint Tony Calderone and Dexter Dancs have not been big scorers in their careers but are obviously contributing.”  Minnesota had good performances out of Tyler Sheehy. who had 1 goal and 3 assists on the night for Minnesota and Tommy Novak who had 1 goal and 1 assist on the night for the Gophers. Notable mentions for Eric Schierhorn who had 27 saves on the night.

For, Michigan not many people expected a win and a tie. However,  similar to last night Michigan battled back from adversity by scoring 3 goals with under 10 minutes to go. Head coach Mel Pearson was proud of their efforts. “Sometimes a tie feels like a win and sometimes it feels like a loss but we stayed in it and I give our team a lot of credit.”Pearson Said They stayed with it and you saw it tonight”. Pearson went on further to say. “We know that we can come back but we can’t just be three down and come back and that’s not how you win hockey games so we have some work to do but proud of our effort tonight.”.  Tony Calderone had 2 goals on the game including the goal that tied the game at 6. The Run DMC’s total for this game 2 goals and 2 assists in this game against Minnesota. Jack Lafontaine started the game in net for the wolverines but was pulled after the 1st period. Hayden Lavigne started the rest of the game and Pearson explained the decision to pull him. “I rely on Steve Shields he works with the goalies and the feedback was positive to go with Jack and it didn’t work out and it was not all his fault we just have to limit the giveaways and manage the puck better”.Pearson Said.

Michigan travels to Wisconsin next week to take on the Badgers next week in Madison.
