The Michigan Wolverines continue to impress in the 2019 College World Series as the Wolverines defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 5-3 to advance in the Winners Bracket of the College World Series. Its the first win for the Wolverines in the College World Series since 1983.
The game got started in the top of the first when Jordan Nwogu scored unearned to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the third inning things really interesting when a Jimmy Kerr triple scored two runs to make it a 3-0 Michigan lead. It followed with a single with Blake Nelson single to give it a 4-0 Michigan lead.
Texas Tech hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half to 4-2. Michigan then got another run in the top of the 7th inning to make it a 5-3 game and despite a Texas Tech rally in the bottom of the 9th, it was pitching that gave the Wolverines the 5-3 win over the Red Raiders.
Karl Kauffmann was dominant once again for the Wolverines. Even though he gave up a home run, It was another solid outing for the Birmingham Brother Rice Grad. His overall record improves to 11-6 on the season. Micah Dallas takes the loss for the Red Raiders and Michigan’s Jeff Criswell picks up the save which is his second of the season.
Michigan will now take on Florida State on Monday at 6 PM in the Winner’s Bracket
