College Volleyball: Nebraska Beats Michigan in 3 sets

Nebraska Beats Michigan in 3 sets

The Big Ten has some great teams in Volleyball and this matchup between Michigan and Nebraska was no exception as Nebraska swept Michigan 3-0 in 3 sets.

Nebraska dominated most of the game as they ended up with a total of 39 kills on the day. Mikaela Foecke led the day with 13 kills in 29 total attempts and 9 digs. Another star on the Cornhuskers today was Annika Albrecht who had 7 kills and led the team with 14 digs on the game.  Nebraska never really trailed in the match as they won 25-22 in set 1, 25-18 in set 2, and 25-13 in set 3.

Michigan just never could really get it going against Nebraska. Despite getting a total of 30 kills, Michigan just could not get going against one of the best teams in the country. Carly Skjodt led the way for the Wolverines with 11 kills and 9 errors in 46 total attempts. She also had 5 digs on the game. Cori Crocker had 3 kills for 17 attempts and she explained what happened in the third set. “We got stuck in that 1 row and it was tied 13-13. We just let 12 points go by and that’s something we have to pay attention to in this upcoming week,” Crocker said. Crocker who went to Brighton High School just 20 mins from Ann Arbor said that she is proud to represent this university while being a local kid. “Michigan is a special place both athletically and academically. The Big Ten is by far the best volleyball conference in the nation so this opportunity is just unreal. You don’t really get a chance to let it all sink in,” Crocker said.

Michigan Head Volleyball Coach Mark Rosen also commented about today’s match with Nebraska.  “Nebraska is a very good team. They are very steady and very consistent and create problems for the opponent,” Rosen said. “I’m very disappointed because we really just kind of broke down there at the end. We went into that rotation in the third set 13-13 and we were battling well in the third set and it’s hard. We were down 2-0 and I thought the girls were battling well. We got stuck in a rotation and you could see us get frustrated.  We talked about frustration as a wasted emotion. We have to control our own personality and our own identity.  I did not think we did a good job of controlling our emotions in the third set. But, this team has got a lot of fight and I think they will battle back. They will be ready to go against Rutgers,” Rosen continued.

Michigan’s next matchup is against Rutgers on Wednesday at 7 pm.
