BASKETBALL: Juwan Howard Agrees to become Michigan’s next Men’s Basketball Coach

 

 

Michigan Athletics has announced that Miami Heat Assistant Coach and former Michigan Basketball Star Juwan Howard has accepted a 5-year deal to be the next head Coach of Michigan Basketball it was first reported by Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

 

Howard replaces John Belelin who stepped down last week to become the new head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers after 12 seasons with the Wolverines.

 

Howard is best known as a member of the Fab Five along with Chris Webber, Jimmy King, Jalen Rose and Ray Jackson that played during the 1991-92  season and the 1992-93 season. Together, the Fab Five Reached the Final Four in 1992 and 1993.

 

Howard was then selected fifth overall to the Washington Bullets in the 1994 NBA Draft and had a 19 year NBA Career as he played with the Washington Bullets/Wizards,Dallas Mavericks,  Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat.

 

Howard was named as an All-Star in 1996 and won two NBA titles with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013. When he retired in 2013, he was then moved to the Heat Coaching Staff as an assistant coach until accepting the Head Coaching Job at Michigan Today.
