BASEBALL: Michigan Defeats Toledo 8-2 / Game re-cap by Casey Campbell

The Michigan Baseball team defeated the Toledo Rockets on Wednesday 8-2 at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor Michigan. It’s Michigan’s Baseball’s 20th win of the season.

The scoring started in the 2nd inning when Jack Blomgren drove a single down the left side which scored Miles Lewis to make it a 1-0 game in the second inning. Toledo then got their first run off a fielding error by the Wolverines to make it a tie game in the top of the third inning.

The score would not stay tied for long as Joe Donovan hit a home run to left field to put the Wolverines up 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. It was Donovan’s 4th home run of this season.

The scoring continued in the 4th inning with the bases loaded, the Wolverines scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 Michigan lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Jimmy Kerr then singled to left field which scored Miles Lewis to make it a 4-1 Michigan Lead. Blake Nelson then scored on a Jack Blomgren Sac Fly to make it a 5-1 Michigan lead to end the 4th inning.

In The 5th inning, it was all Wolverines again as Michigan scored three more times to make it an 8-1 Michigan lead. Toledo would add one run in the 6th inning to make it an 8-2 game but it wasn’t enough as Michigan held off the Rockets 8-2.

Walker Cleveland picked up the win as he gave up only 1 hit, 1 run and had 1 strikeout in his two innings of work on the mound. His record improves to 2-1 on the year. Aric McAtee takes the loss for the Rockets. He record falls to 0-1 on the season. Michigan’s Overall Record improves to 20-7 on the year, while Toledo’s record falls to 9-15 on the year.

All the scoring happened for the Wolverines between the second and fifth innings today for the Wolverines. Miles Lewis led the team with 3 hits on the day and Jack Blomgren had 3 RBI’s on the day as well for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines return to action this weekend when they welcome Minnesota to town for a huge Big Ten Series this weekend. Friday’s game starts at 4 PM on the Big Ten Network
