MHSAA Boys Soccer Preview: Salem

Earlier this week, Great Lakes Post’s Casey Campbell spoke with Salem Boys Soccer Coach Kyle Karns to preview the upcoming boy’s soccer season.

How ready are you to start this season?

Karns: The start of the season comes very quickly this year. We were fortunate to get a few scrimmages in this past weekend against great competition. That will help prepare us for our upcoming season.

Who are some of your top returners this year?

Karns: A couple of our top returners this season are Luke Benford and Ethan Harkins. Both players return in great form as they were a part of the Novi Jaguars team that competed in Nationals this past summer. Both players bring a dynamic style of play to the field and will help lead our offense this season.

How do you think The KLAA will fair in soccer?

Karns: The KLAA is always going to be one of the toughest conferences in the state of Michigan. From top to bottom in our division, teams are talented, organized, and each team has the ability to win the division.

What is your outlook on this season?

Karns: We look to remain competitive and compete for a division title. In our division, if you can stay competitive, that gives you momentum leading into the state playoffs. Once you get to that stage of the season, anything can happen.
