ARCA: Chandler Smith wins Rain-Shortened Race at Toledo

Chandler Smith led a race-high 97 laps in last years race at Toledo Speedway but didn’t win the race that race went to Zane Smith. This year, it was a different story as Chandler Smith picked up his first win of the 2019 ARCA Menards Series Season leading 140 of 152 laps.

The Race was threatened by rain in the forecast but was started on time at 2 PM. Michael Self led the first few laps as he sat on the pole for the Sioux Chief Power Plex 200. Chandler Smith then led the rest of the laps completing a dominant day for the driver from Talking Rock, Georgia.

“Whenever you’re the leader and you can see the rain coming and the race is past halfway you want it to hurry up and get there,” Smith said. “I knew as soon as it started raining it wasn’t going to stop so we needed to get out front and stay out front. That’s what we did. These Venturini Motorsports guys do a great job giving me racecars that can dominate these races. I drive them the same way I drive my late model cars and that’s where we were able to beat them all today. We had more drive off the corners and that’s what it took.” Smith said

Ty Gibbs finished second for the 3rd time this season for Joe Gibbs Racing this year. It is the third time Gibbs has finished second this season. Christian Eckes Finished Third, his teammate Michael Self 4th and Sam Mayer finished 5th.

Venturini Motorsports has won 5 out of the 6 races this season and Toyota has gone a perfect 6 for 6 in races this year.

It was also the debut for Hailie Deegan in the 55 for Venturini Motorsports she ended up finishing 18th after crashing with Joe Graf Jr. It was also a tough day for Points Leader Travis Braden as he hit the blocks on lap 79. He would end up finishing 13th

Its a quick turnaround for the ARCA Menards Series as they will be in Charlotte on Thursday. The Race Begins at 9 PM on FS1.
