SOFTBALL: South Carolina Defeats Auburn 8-4

The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Auburn Tigers today 8-4 from Jane B Moore Field in Auburn, Alabama. The Gamecocks take the series against the Tigers and its the first series they have won in Auburn since 2013.

The Gamecocks got the scoring started when Jordan Fabian hit to centerfield which allowed Alex Fulmer to score to get the Gamecocks on the board 1-0. The third inning followed with two big runs for the Gamecocks. First, Lauren Stewart hit a single, but an Auburn fielding error caused a run to score for South Carolina as they led 2-0. Alyssa Kumiyama then followed with a single to right-center to make it a 3-0 South Carolina lead.

The Gamecocks picked up two more runs in the top of the 5th inning as Madison Owens reached base on a fielders choice as Lauren Stewart scored to make it a 4-0 South Carolina lead. The Gamecocks weren’t done as Mackenzie Boesel hit a single to third base which scored Madison Owens to make it a 5-0 game.

Auburn got on the board in the bottom of the 5th when Casey McCrackin doubled to left center which scored Bree Fornis to make it a 5-1 game. Alyssa Rivera then hit a single to make it a 5-2 game.

South Carolina then put this game away for good in the top of the 7th as Kaite Prebble hit a two-run home run to make it a 7-2 game. Jana Johns then would hit a home run to make it an 8-2 game. Auburn would put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the 7th inning.  However, it would not be enough as South Carolina defeats Auburn 8-4 and takes the series against the Tigers.

South Carolina wins its first series against the Tigers since 2014 and takes the series in Auburn for the first time since 2013. South Carolina also puts up 22 runs total in the weekend series against which is the most runs that the Gamecocks put up in an SEC series all season long.

Cayla Drotar picked up the win for the Gamecocks improving her record to 8-5 on the year.  Auburn’s Ashlee Swindle picked up the loss for the Tigers. Her record falls to 9-5 on the year. Dixie Raley picks up the save for the Gamecocks. It’s her 4th save of the season.

The Gamecocks are off until Tuesday as they play South Carolina Upstate on Tuesday. The Tigers have a midweek game with Alabama State before starting a weekend series with Kentucky.
