NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Profiles: Ben Rhodes

At 21 years old, Ben Rhodes is making a name for himself in the Camping World Truck Series.

Rhodes has been enjoying the off weekend the last couple weeks while taking night classes as well. “It’s been pretty busy,” Rhodes said.  “I’m enjoying the time off and I’m getting do things I have not been able to do but I’m looking forward to getting to Texas,” Rhodes stated.

Rhodes’s season has been solid performance wise but has not been able to get the results that he has been looking to obtain. “We have been having good runs performance wise but we just can’t seem to put it together. This could be a year where we can win a championship. We just have to make sure we can fix all of the parts failures and engine failures that we have had and make sure they don’t happen again.  I think we can have good races and gets some wins if we can do that,” Rhodes commented.

Ben Rhodes has been trying to get his first win in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He was able to get that done last year at Las Vegas. “We snuck one out last night and I was happy we got the win.  I did not know if I would ever get one of those because I had gone so long without winning. I want to get these gremlins off my back so we can win more,” Rhodes continued.

Rhodes outside the track enjoys adventure and being a daredevil. He has a bucket list of things he has always wanted to do. He has put that list off due to racing but it is something he wants do. “I want to learn how to ski and snowboard good enough to do tricks and travel to Colorado for these skiing trips. I want to learn how to skydive and become certified and do my own solo dives. I always thought that would be pretty cool. The most adventurous things you can think of are the things I want to do,” Rhodes stated.

Rhodes is also thinking about his future as he knows he won’t be a race car driver forever. While competing full time in the Camping World Truck Series, Rhodes is also going to school to get is HVAC Associate’s Degree. He is looking into possibly getting his pilot’s license as well. Whatever it is, Rhodes wants to be prepared and look into other things when his racing career is over. “I want to be able to do all of these things when my racing career is over whether it’s getting my pilots license or doing something with my HVAC certification. I just want to make sure that I’m taken care of when my racing career is over.  Whether that’s in 20 years, 30 years or even tomorrow, I want to be prepared for life after racing,” Rhodes conutined.

Rhodes still lives in Louisville, Kentucky. He does not mind the commute from the shop in Sandusky, Ohio as well as North Carolina if it means he can come home. “I enjoy being home here in Kentucky and don’t really mind the longer commute.  Which means if I’m home, I’m home. To me home is where your family is and I want to be there for them. I’m not home that often but when I am, I enjoy myself,” Rhodes remarked.

The Next Truck Race is at Texas Motor Speedway and Rhodes is excited about returning to Texas. “I love racing at Texas Motor Speedway,” Rhodes said.  “It’s a challenging race track and I can’t wait to go there. Hopefully we can have a good result and get a win,” Rhodes stated.
