Michigan Softball Defeats Western Michigan 3 – 0

The Michigan Softball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 3-0 as they earned their seventh shutout of the season.

The big story was sophomore pitcher Meghan Beaubien as she threw a complete game on the day as she only allowed four hits and struck out 13 batters in the win.

The scoring started for Michigan in the bottom of the 1st inning as Faith Canfield hit a home run to left center field to give Michigan an early 1-0 lead. It was Canfield’s fourth home run of the season.

Michigan would again get on the board in the fifth inning when junior Abby Skvarce came into pinch hit and hit a single. Her hit scored sophomore Natalia Rodriguez to make it a 2-0 Michigan lead. Freshman Lexi Blair hit a single to score Skvarce to give Michigan a 3-0 lead.

Western Michigan put two runners on with two outs to go in the top of the seventh inning, but Meghan Beaubien was able to get the final out for the Wolverines to win the game 3-0

Michigan earned its 7th shutout of the season and improved to 4-0 at home this season. They will start Big Ten play this weekend as they welcome the Nebraska Cornhuskers to Alumni Field. Friday’s game will begin at 4 PM, Saturday’s game will start at 2 PM, and Sunday’s game will begin at 1 PM.
