Michigan Introduces Juwan Howard as Head Coach of Michigan Basketball

Today, members of the media were called to Ann Arbor to welcome Juwan Howard as the newest Head Coach of Michigan Basketball. Howard got emotional when he stepped up to the podium stating “I never knew that this job would be open and I never imagined I would become the head coach tas I, for the last time walked off the court at Crisler Arena.  Addressing the press Howard stated that it was during his 17th year in the NBA was when he got the itch to coach. “Now, I come back to coach my Alma Mater and lead young men on the court and off the court,” Howard said

Howard comes to Michigan after being with the Miami Heat as an assistant coach since 2013. He replaces John Beilein who left to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers a few weeks ago. Howard has not decided who his assistant coaches are but are in talks with many of them. He also announced that Cole Bajema, who was recruited by John Beilein signed his letter of intent back in November. “Cole has recommitted and will sign his letter of intent to come to Michigan this fall,” states Howard.

Among the Attendees at today’s press conference include members of the Current Michigan basketball team, Former Michigan Basketball Players Jimmy King, Terry Mills, and Tim McCormick. As well as Current Coaches in other sports including Football Coach Jim Harbaugh, Hockey Head Coach Mel Pearson, Softball Coach Carol Hutchins, and Volleyball Coach Mark Rosen. Also in attendance was Eastern Michigan Basketball Coach Rob Murphy

Howard becomes the 17th Men’s Basketball Coach in Program History. Michigan is now the only program where both the football and basketball coaches are both alums.
