Pinckney Defeats Tecumseh 34-6 to Open the Season

The Pinckney Pirates defeated the Tecumseh Indians 34-6 in the season opener of the 2019 Season. 

Pinckney got the game started right off the bat when Sal Paterno ran it in for a 56-yard touchdown to put the Pirates up 7-0 early on in the first quarter. 

The Pirates looked to get on the board in the second quarter when quarterback Joe Bona threw it to Caleb Wardlow for a touchdown but it was called back when Wardlow stepped out of bounds. New Pinckney Kicker Max Gonos kicked his first career field goal as the Pirates led 10-0 Early on. The Pirates would get in the endzone on their next drive when quarterback Joe Bona ran into the endzone for a touchdown to put the Pirates up 17-0 early on in the second quarter. 

Tecumseh’s Jack Burnett got the Indians on the board but the team could not convert on the extra point chance. The Score was 17-6 Pinckney heading into the half. 

The Pirates took over the game in the second half as Sal Paterno ran it in for a 1-yard touchdown to make it a 24-6 Pirate Lead at the end of the third quarter. In the Fourth Quarter, it was Joe Bona scoring for a 1-yard touchdown to make it a 31-6 lead for the Pirates. Max Gonos would add on one more field goal to make it a 34-6 game and that would be your final from Pinckney. 

Sal Paterno stood out once again for the Pirates as he rushed for 130 yards for 18 attempts as well as 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Joe Bona did well in the air and on the ground as he was 8-14 for 123 yards. Bona also rushed for 48 yards on 6 carries. Sophomore Reciever Caleb Wardlow also impressed for the Pirates as he had 2 catches for 48 yards. Hunter Hendricks rushed for 48 yards on the day for the Pirates as well. 

Pinckney will head on the road for the first time this year as they take on the Bulldogs from Chelsea next week Friday at 7 PM
