Novi Football Player Profile: Tommy Phimister

Tommy Phimister has turned into one of the top players not just at Novi but in the KLAA playing on the offensive and defensive line as a freshman last season. Now in his sophomore season, he looks to continue the progress he made last year. “I’m very excited this year. Last year I would say I was more nervous coming in meeting all these new people and having to go against players that were four years older than me. This year,  I can’t wait to get back out under the lights,” Phimister said.

Phimister played on Varsity last year for the Wildcats as a freshman and admitted it did come with its challenges, but he had a lot of help from his teammates and coaches. “Last year had its challenges. I had to learn a whole new playbook and a style of play I’d never done before. Fortunately, my teammates and coaches helped me feel confident in my abilities.  They taught me what I needed to know going into that first game,” Phimister stated.

Phimister is an Offensive Linemen for Novi and explains the challenges of being a lineman and all things the linemen do during the game. “Being an offensive lineman can be tough with all of the different reads we have to make in our offense.  This year we have it down pretty well and will be giving a good fight. It can also be very tiring both physically and mentally because you have to always give your best effort on every play if you want the team to be successful,” Phimister added.

Practices started last week for high school football teams, and Phimister says practices have gone well. The Wildcats are preparing for a week one road trip to Livonia Stevenson before coming home week two to host Brighton. “It has been looking pretty good,” Phimister said. “I’ve been looking back at the film from practices this past week, and we need to keep our intensity up through the entire practice. Everyone is putting in their best effort to get better every day,” Phimister continued.

Phimister has learned a lot playing football all these years and credits the coaching staff for helping him become a better football player. “I couldn’t ask for any better coaches.  All of them are amazing coaches and are just great people. If I ever need anything from them, I know they’re only one call away,” Phimister added.
