Northville Lacrosse Playoff Preview

Northville Lacrosse Playoff Preview

Earlier this week, Great Lakes Post spoke with Northville Lacrosse Coach Shaun Dicken to preview the upcoming MHSAA Lacrosse tournament.

How do you think your season is going?

Coach: We had an outstanding season and certainly are excited to get the postseason started.  We play at Saline on Saturday 5/11 at 2 pm and with a win would have the best regular season in our school’s history locked up.

How do you like how the districts were seeded this year?

Coach: I think coaches across the state were interested to see how the new MPR rankings would factor into the seeding process.  We have three other very good teams in our region and can’t wait for the high-level competition to start. Being placed as the two seed, I do wish our game Saturday would have taken place before the seeding took place, but it will be a great litmus test to see where we stand.

Who are some impact players to watch for your team?

Coach: Senior goalie Jeff Varner is undoubtedly our team leader and playing at a high level with a save percentage in the high 60’s.  Sophomore FOGO Nick Lauderback has been turning heads at the faceoff winning at 85%. Attackmen Shane Alexander (38 goals and 22 assists) and Nick Salamone (22 goals and 19 assists) are our point leaders on offense.  LSM Jake Khoury has also taken on the other teams best offensive player on a regular basis.

What is the biggest thing you have to work on for districts?

Coach: Simply being more consistent on both ends.  When we are clicking on offense and defense, we are tough to beat.  There have certainly been games where our offense or defense has had to carry us by themselves, and we need to clean that up.
