In case you haven’t heard, The Brighton Football Team is heading to the State Finals for the first time in school history. That has got the attention of many alumni of the Brighton Football Program, including one of the most successful players that the program has ever seen, Drew Henson. Henson graduated in 1998 from Brighton and was an all-state athlete in both football and baseball

Henson has been getting updates from his friends and has been checking to see how the Bulldogs are doing. He was pretty excited to see that the Bulldogs are in the state finals. “I have known that the Bulldogs have been on this run, and I’m just excited to see that the team made the state finals. It’s every team’s goal to win it all, and it’s just so special to do with all your best friends,” Henson said.

Henson has not been to a Brighton football game in over ten years and is excited to reunite with a lot of his classmates and share some memories. “It will be fun catching up with everyone at the game and see what everyone is up to in their lives. I’m flying into Detroit the day of the game, so it should be fun,” Henson commented.

After graduating from Brighton in 1998, Henson went on to play college football at the University Of Michigan and then was drafted by both the Houston Texans and the New York Yankees. Henson was a member of the Yankees organization in 2002 and 2003 before retiring in 2004. He then joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2004 and stayed for two seasons. He also played for the Vikings and the Lions before being released from the Lions in 2009. He has also spent time as a scout in the New York Yankees organization for the past few years.

Henson is excited about coming to Ford Field for the game and will be reminded about his high school days. “You’ll always be reminded about your high school days. You don’t think about it every day as you get older, but when you think about your high school years, they are some of the best memories you’ll ever have. It’s memories that you and your classmates will never forget. I still remember the games, the bus rides to and from, the visiting locker rooms, and the feelings after big games and tough losses. It doesn’t seem like 21 years since I was in high school, but it has,” Henson remarked.

Currently, Henson lives in Tampa Bay, Florida, with his wife Madeleine and a six-year daughter named Perry. Henson’s daughter is a Michigan fan and has seen both the Brighton baseball and football fields. Henson says it fun to bring his daughter back up to town to share the memories that he had while at Brighton.
