Michigan Baseball defeats Western Michigan 12-5 by Casey Campbell

The Michigan Baseball team gets a big win over Western Michigan 12-5 on Tuesday at Ray Fisher Stadium. The Team improves to 14-4 on the season.

Michigan struck first on the board after Senior Blake Nelson hit a shot to the third baseman and he couldn’t come up with it. The error scored two runs for the Wolverines as they led 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning.

Western Michigan was able to get on the board in the third inning as Andrew Stone hit a single to second base scoring Sean O’Keefe to make it 2-1 Michigan. Jimmy Roche then singled to left field scoring Justin Mcintyre to make it a tie ballgame. Nate Grys walked which scored Stone to make it a 3-2 Western Michigan lead. Freshman Pitcher Walker Cleveland took over for Blake Beers to get out of the jam in the top of the third inning.

The Wolverines loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning and Senior Blake Nelson took advantage of it. He hit a single to left field scoring Jordan Brewer and Jesse Franklin to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

The fourth inning started off with a bang as Junior Jordan Brewer hit a two-run home run to give Michigan a 6-3 lead in the fourth. Jimmy Kerr added another run when he grounded to first base which scored Miles Lewis to give Michigan a 7-3 lead.

The Wolverines scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Jimmy Kerr, Jack Blomgren, Christan Bullock, Harrison Salter, and Jordan Nwogu all hit RBI’s to make it a 12-3 Michigan lead in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Western Michigan added two more runs in the 8th inning but it would not be enough as Michigan defeated Western Michigan 12-5 for their 14th win of the season.

Freshman pitcher Walker Cleveland picked up the first win of his college career by going 4.2 innings while only giving up 1 hit on the day. He is 1-0 on the season. Western Michigan’s Will Mullen picked up the loss for the Broncos. He is currently 1-3 on the season.

Michigan will go on the road this weekend to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech in a huge weekend series. They will also have a single game with Stenson on Sunday before a midweek series at home against San Jose State.
