Big Ten Softball Tournament: Wisconsin beats Iowa 7-4

The fifth-seeded  Wisconsin Badgers defeated the twelfth-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes 7-4 at the 2019 Big Ten Softball Tournament at Andy Mohr Field on the campus of Indiana University.

Iowa got on the board first when Cameron Cecil hit a single to right field which scored Arlee Bogar as Iowa took a 1-0 early lead. Wisconsin then answered back in a big way in the bottom of the first inning when Lauren Foster reached base on a fielder’s choice scoring Taylor Johnson as Wisconsin ties it at 1-1. Melaine Cross then hit a double to right field which scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead for the Badgers.

After an over hour rain delay, the game resumed in the second. Iowa would put some more runs in the top of the third inning as Ashley Hamilton singled to center field and advanced to second on a throw which scored two runs to tie the game at three. Wisconsin then scored three more runs in the bottom of the third inning as Caroline Hedgcock hit a single to centerfield as two runs scored to make it a 5-3 game. Iowa would get one more run in the fifth inning, but that would not be enough as Wisconsin takes the game 7-4 in game one of the Big Ten Tournament which ended Iowa’s season. Maddie Schwartz takes the win for the Badgers as her record improves to 4-0 on the season. Sarah Leaman takes the loss for Iowa as she falls to 2-8 on the year.
