Big Ten Softball Tournament:  Illinois Defeats Nebraska 6-4

 

 

The Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 6-4 in Game 2 of the Big Ten Softball Tournament in Bloomington Indiana.

 

The game was scoreless for the first few innings until Nebraska scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Lindsey Walljasper hit a single to left to score Alyvia Simmons to put Nebraska on the board 1-0.

 

Illinois got a run back in the top of the 4th inning when Alexis Carillo flew out to left field, and a run was scored unearned to tie the ballgame at one. Nebraska would get one back in the bottom of the 4th inning as Samatha Owen walked which scored a run that gave Nebraska a 2-1 lead.

 

Illinois got a big hit in the top of the 5th inning when Carly Thomas hit a double to left field which scored two runs to give Illinois the lead 3-2. Illinois scored three runs in the 7th inning to go up 6-2. One of those runs was a home run by Annie Fleming to start the inning. Nebraska would add on two more runs in the bottom of the 7th, but it would not be enough as Illinois won the game 6-4 over Nebraska to advance to the next round of the Big Ten Tournament.

 

Sydney Sickels took the win for Illinois her record improves to 18-13 on the year. Courtney Wallace Takes the Loss for the Cornhuskers she falls to 4-7 on the year.

 

Illinois will take on Michigan at 1:30 PM on BTN Today.
