ARCA: Michael Self ready for Madison

When you do something for the first time, there are always some nerves doing it and that is what Michael Self will be feeling when going to Madison this weekend. Self has never raced at Madison before but said he has asked his teammates Chandler Smith, Christian Eckes and Hailie Deegan on how to get around this half-mile track.

At the Halfway point in the ARCA Menards Series, Michael Self has 3 wins on the season and currently leads the points standings 15 points in front of Bret Holmes. Self’s goals for the second half of the season is to just build on more consistently with the team.

“Right now we’re looking for wins and trying to get that consistency we need,” Self said in an interview with ARCA. “Look at how much has happened already this season and how many times the point lead has changed hands. It’s way too early and way too stressful to be counting points right now. The 25 team performs best when we’re running hard and chasing wins so our goal is to get as many wins as we can. I am not saying I am going to suddenly go checkers or wreckers, we don’t want to start throwing away races, but if we win then the points situation will take care of itself.

“We need to minimize our mistakes, too. The situation at Nashville and even at Daytona, that was wrong place wrong time. But at Pocono, we made some mistakes as a team and at Charlotte, I made a mistake that cost us a win. What you saw at Michigan is what happens when we don’t make mistakes.” Self continued

Self won at Five Flags, Salem and Michigan this season and will try to keep his point lead when the ARCA Menards Series heads to Madison this weekend for the Shore Lunch 200.
